Helaas nog steeds flink in het nieuws; het lekken van olie in de Golf van Mexico door de ontploffing op het olieplatform Deepwater Horizon op 20 april. BP moet met de billen bloot, ook online:
Greenpeace is een wedstrijd gestart om het logo van BP een makeover te geven. Hier kun je inzendingen tot nu toe vinden. De website Ifitwasmyhome geeft duidelijk aan hoe schrikbarend groot de olievlek momenteel is. Leg de vlek maar eens over je woonplaats heen…

Before her 21-year-old daughter died in a sledding accident in early 2007, Pam Weiss had never logged on to Facebook. Back then, social-networking sites were used almost exclusively by the young. But she knew her daughter Amy Woolington, a UCLA student, had an account, so in her grief Weiss turned to Facebook to look for photos. She found what she was looking for and more. She was soon communicating with her daughter’s many friends, sharing memories and even piecing together, through posts her daughter had written, a blueprint of things she had hoped to do. “It makes me feel good that Amy had a positive effect on so many people, and I wouldn’t have had a clue if it hadn’t been for Facebook,” says Weiss. Time heeft er al eens aandacht besteed in haar bericht ‘How to Manage Your Online Life When You’re Dead‘ en ook het weblog ‘MakeUseOf‘ heeft dit voor een aantal populaire web diensten onderzocht: Wat gebeurt er met je online accounts wanneer je komt te overlijden?
Hotmail en Gmail blijken toegang aan de nabestaanden van de overledene te verlenen, zolang ze maar aantonen dat hij of zij overleden is. Myspace en Yahoo verwijderen simpelweg het account. Facebook zal het account ook verwijderen wanneer dit gevraagd wordt, maar maakt er ook een gedenkpagina van als de familie dit verzoekt.
Ooit wel eens over nagedacht…. ?

Reset Monopoly City Streets

Via Bright en de weblog van Monopoly City Streets lees ik dat de Google Monopoly game een reset zal krijgen omdat er erg veel mensen (gemakkelijk) valsspelen. Tja… beetje naief om te denken dat mensen niet verschillende accounts openen om vervolgens heel gemakkelijk straten goedkoop door te verkopen. Het geheel restarten zal ze erg veel spelers gaan kosten….. erg jammer…

Dat zou nog eens nieuws zijn! Helaas heeft het Google team al via een officieel bericht laten weten dat er een verklaring is voor het verschijnsel in Google Earth:
